Volunteer Duties

  1. Accept donated items from donors.    
  2. Give donor a copy of the “Thank you/ receipt”
  3. Give donor an  “I Helped” sticker.
  4. Organize the donated items on the bus (see below).

 

Bus Opening

  1. Sandra Woodrow will unlock bus each morning
  2. Take out the bus banner and attach to the banner stand
  3. Sandra Woodrow will bring the cash donation jar
  4. Take chairs, table and tarp out of the bus to set-up
  5. Put literature and thank you donation fliers on table
  6. Do not close bus inside and engage the lock as the doors will not open

(this is a safety lock used for the buses)

 

Bus Closing

  1. Put away banner for Stuff the Bus inside school bus
  2. Put chairs, table, tarp inside school bus
  3. Put printed material inside school bus into designated container
  4. Hand the cool bag with crayons and cash donation jar to Sandra Woodrow
  5. Sandra Woodrow will lock the bus at 7:00 p.m. at both bus sites except on Saturday August 14th when the district will take the buses to the sort location at Gladish.
  6. Chairs, printed materials, banners and stands, pop-up tents will be collected and returned to owner

 

What to bring/wear?

  1. Wear a Kiwanis T-shirt or hat.
  2. Put on a “Volunteer” badge when you arrive.  
  3. Cell phone
  4. Something to do during slow times.
  5. Sunscreen
  6. Food or drinks if you want something other than water and light snacks.

 

What will Kiwanis supply?

  1. Bottled water
  2. Light snacks
  3. Shade Tent
  4. Two chairs and a table
  5. Banners, stand and printed materials
  6. Cool bags for crayons
  7. Boxes to place donated school supplies
  8. Cash donation jar
  9. First aid kit for minor wounds and scratches

 

Rules about the Buses

  1. Do NOT leave the unlocked bus unattended.
  2. The buses will be unlocked at the beginning of the shift and locked at the end of the day by Sandra Woodrow. 
  3. We will only have access to the main passenger door.  Do not try to open the back door of the bus.
  4. Only Stuff the Bus volunteers are allowed on the buses.  Do not let other people on the buses.
  5. Do not engage inside lock at the driver side in the bus this is a safety lock

 


Organization of School Supplies on Buses

  1. Place all crayons in the “cold bag”.  It will be labeled.  Crayons will be picked up at the end of the day.
  2. Place similar items together in storage boxes  eg. notebooks, pens, paper each in separate boxes. 

 

Cash Donations and Checks

  1. There will be a labeled container at the table for accepting donations of cash or checks.
  2. Donors may receive a “Thank you/Receipt” form and fill out their own donation information.
  3. Cash donations will be picked up at the end each day and the collection jar returned the next day.

 

Bathroom Breaks

  1. If you are working with a fellow Kiwanian, one person may leave.
  2. If you are the solo volunteer, you may NOT leave the bus unattended. Please plan accordingly.

 

On-Call Relief

Tom Harris, and his wife, Jeri are available to quickly relieve you of your duties in the event the next volunteer does not show up or if you have an emergency that requires you to leave.  Please wait for one of them to arrive before you leave the bus.  DO NOT leave the bus unattended.

Minor Medical Emergency

  1. Use the first aid kit that is available on each bus to attend to minor wounds, bites, scratches etc... 

 

Major Medical or Safety Emergency

  1. Call 911
  2. Protect people and property.
  3. Do not discuss an emergency with the press or other by-standers at the bus
  4. Once the situation is stabilized, contact a club officer:

  1. Who do I contact if I would like my child to receive school supplies?

The Kiwanis does not decide who receives supplies nor takes a wait list for school supplies.

  1. When will the school supplies be donated to the students in need?

      Within the first two months of school.

 

  1. Can I get a receipt for my donation?

Please give all donors a “Thank you/receipt” form.  They will be responsible for completing the donated amount.

 

  1. What are the hours for dropping off donations at the buses?

              Thursday, August 13th  1:15 pm – 7:00pm

              Friday, August 14th       11:00 am – 7:00 pm

              Saturday, August 15th   9:00am – 4:00 pm 

 

  1. Where are the buses parked?

              Wheatland Mall parking lot

              Dissmore’s parking lot

 

  1. Are there other locations I can drop off donated school supplies?

              Some business are having school supply drives to support the                       project

  1. How do I join Kiwanis?

Invite this person to a lunch meeting, describe our club and our club’s projects.  The membership fee is $120 per year.  Provide Kiwanis membership handbook.
